Patagonia's Torres del Paine

Patagonia is a region comprised of the southern third of Chile and Argentina. Torres del Paine National Park, rated the fifth most beautiful place on earth by National Geographic, is located in Chile, featuring gorgeous mountains and huge glaciers as part of the southern Andes ice fields. We spent a week photographing in this park and then another week in nearby Los Glaciares National Park. You'll find a separate gallery for Los Glaciares and I've prepared two informative presentations on glaciers, one on Glacier Grey and the other on the Perito Moreno Glacier. I hope you enjoy viewing these impressive places.

We spent a morning photographing the Salto Grande Waterfalls in Torres del Paine. Here are a few of the photos from that location.

When we arrived at our lodge at Lake Grey a large flock of monk parakeets greeted us. Being photographers, everyone in our group dropped their bags and grabbed their cameras.

The next morning we were greeted with this fine view with clouds reflecting on Lake Grey.

Upon our return to Calafate we saw a small flock of flamingos on Lake Argentino. Here you see one gaining speed to take flight.

On our last night in Torres del Paine a few of us decided to see if we could capture the Milky Way. It was a cold, windless, and sparkling clear night along Lake Grey. I spent more time just looking at the brilliant sky, wondering about it all, than I did photographing it. Photography has certainly made me more sensitive to our environs.
