Outside of Bali we visited the Sacred Monkey Forest where we photographed long-tailed monkeys with their young.

The next morning we flew to Borneo and took a 2-hour boat ride to our lodge. This photo welcomes us to Tanjung Puting National Park, home of the orangutans.

As we traveled up the Sekonyer River we began seeing these unusual looking monkeys.

We felt fortunate to be able to watch these proboscis monkeys play because they can only be seen in Borneo.

This is a series of 6 photos showing these monkeys leaping, not from one branch or tree to another, but leaping into the river.

As we saw the monkeys prepare to jump we thought they were going to leap to the trees on the other side of the river which seemed to be way too far.
IndoMonkOrangBorneoIndonesiaMonkey proboscisOrangutansTanjung Putin National Park
We were stunned amd amazed when we saw them descend toward the river.
IndoMonkOrangBorneoIndonesiaMonkey proboscisOrangutansTanjung Putin National Park
They jumped from a height of at least 40 feet.

I missed getting the monkey entering the water, only the splash afterwards. Four monkeys jumped, each taking a turn, as we watched awestruck.

Our destination was the Rimba Orangutan Ecolodge where we stayed for three nights and from which we pursued catching orangutans with our cameras.

Once in position we waited for the orangutans to descend from the trees to eat the food provided by the local staff.

They came from various directions when the staff repeatedly yelled a-come-get-it cry.

He enjoyed eating the bananas provided, was in no hurry to leave, and was so respected that no other orangutan would come down to eat until he left.
