Cats of the Pantanal 2017
For the last few years we have wanted to photograph jaguars in a region of Brazil called the Pantanal. It's a 195,000 square kilometer region , a world heritage site, and the largest wetland in the world. We were there in September during the dry season. We flew to Sao Paulo and then Cuiaba, a city of a million people and the gateway to the Pantanal. Our group of 10 photographers traveled in a small bus 5 hours south on bumpy dirt roads crossing 147 wood-planked bridges to reach a place called Porto Jofre. From there, we took a small flat-bottom boat for an hour on the Rio Cuiaba and Rio Piquiri. We arrived at our floating hotel, called the Jaguar Flotel, where we spent six exciting days photographing jaguars and other wildlife. Read the captions beneath the photos to learn more about our photographic expedition.
