Maine 2012
Maine is a favorite place for us to visit. Julie was a camp counselor their in her younger days and Rainer has retreated to Hancock Point on several occasions to write books. On this trip we took the Old Canada Road north and then went across the state to Baxter State Park. Next we traveled to Eastport and Lubec with a quick trip to Roosevelt's Campobello International Park just inside the Canadian border. Then we followed the coastline to Bar Harbor and spent a day enjoying Acadia National Park, one of our very favorite places to hike and bike.
Read MoreWe awoke at 4:30 am, drove an hour to Baxter State Park, hiked a mile into Sandy Stream Lake in the dark in hopes of seeing moose feeding at dawn. "Moose are always at Sandy Stream Lake" we were told. We sat for three hours on the rocks waiting but no moose. Yet looking at Mt. Katahdin and its reflection in the lake was a worthwhile reward.
