Amazon 2012
After visiting Machu Picchu in Peru, we visited the heart of the Amazon cruising on a 28-passenger ship to see wildlife and visit the villages along the various tributaries of the Amazon.
We flew from Lima to Iquitos, Peru, which is a city reached only by water or air, not over land. Then we traveled by bus for an hour to Nauta where we boarded the Delfin II.
We brought school supplies and hygiene items to be shared with the children at the school. They sang for us and we sang for them. That's why they are laughing!
We stopped at the ranger station to register as we entered a national park. The children of the nearby village were all waiting to greet us and the mothers were ready to sell us their crafts. The ranger station was also equipped with a satellite dish.
This mother and her son walking along a trail under the protection of a colorful parasol caught my attention. Looking quite contemporary, they seemed so out of context to the surroundings.
This picture symbolizes so much of the river people's lives. Mom cleaning fish with her children by her side (and another one on the way). I like the smile of the young child looking adorn fully at her mother.
